Go ahead, ask Siri anything

An app that sends messages for you when you tell it to; an app that uses your voice to schedule meetings and place phone calls; an app that knows what you say, understands what you mean, and even talks back; sounds like an app straight out of a sci-fi movie, doesn’t it? Well, believe it or not but there actually IS an app just like this (yes, it does everything we’ve mentioned above!)! Known as Siri, this app is available on iPhone 4S and does so much for you that you’ll have a hard time keeping yourself from saying “wow” out loud every time you use it. So, here are some amazing things that you can expect Siri to do for you:

  • It understands what you say: Ever wondered how it would be like to have a conversation with your iPhone? Well, it’s possible now! With Siri, you can talk as you would to a person and make it do things for you by giving it voice commands. Just say something like “Tell my wife I’m running late.” “Remind me to call the vet.” or “Any good burger joints around here?”  and Siri does what you say or finds the information you need. When it’s done doing what you’ve told it to do, it even answers you back!
  • It knows what you mean: Since Siri understands what you say, there’s no doubt it has intelligence. But here’s the kicker; it could have knowledge too! Why, you ask? Because it knows what you mean! It knows what you’re talking about and looks up info to find what you are looking for. Siri is proactive, so you can expect it to keep questioning you until it finds what you’re looking for.
  • It helps you do the things you do every day: Whether you want to text your dad or call the dentist, set a reminder or find directions, you can always ask Siri to help you. Siri figures out which apps to use and who you’re talking about, so all you have to do is talk. On getting your command, it finds answers for you from the web through sources like Yelp and WolframAlpha and it uses Location Services to look up where you live, where you work, and where you are. You are then given the information and the best options based on your current location. It even knows your friends, family, boss, and coworkers from the details in your contacts!
  • It has so much to tell you: Siri uses all the built-in apps on iPhone 4S. It writes and sends email messages and texts, it searches the web for anything you need to know, it plays the songs you want to hear and it gives you directions. And what’s more? It even places calls, schedules meetings, helps you remember, and wakes you up. As if this weren’t enough, it speaks for itself too!

Siri does so much for you and all you need to do is use your voice! Really, there could have been no better catchphrase for Siri than the one it has now: “Your wish is its command”.

Oh! Wait! iPhone takes dictation too which means there’s one more excuse for you to use your voice instead of your fingers. Whether you want to write messages, take notes, or search the web (or do much more), all you need to do is tap the microphone icon on the keyboard instead of typing and say what you want to say as iPhone listens. Tap Done, and the words you just said will be converted into text!  Dictation also works with third-party apps, so you can update your Facebook status, tweet, or write and send Instagrams. Could it get any easier than this?

Why has my Toronto SEO rankings dropped?

Has your site’s search engine ranking dropped dramatically?

Are you wondering what in the world could have caused the plunge?

Read on to find out 10 things that could be responsible:

  1. The end of Google Honeymoon: If your relatively new site had enjoyed high rankings for some time but has lost it all, it has been on a Google Honeymoon which, unfortunately, has ended. And you’re not alone; that’s a phenomenon all new sites go through.
  2. You are now in the Google Sandbox: What happens to the newer sites post the “Google Honeymoon” (or any other phenomenon, for that matter)? They get dropped in the Google Sandbox (meaning a drop in rankings), a phenomenon we call the “Google Sandbox Effect”. And the reason? The sites are new and unproven. To get your site out of the sandbox, you’ve got to prove your site’s value and that can be done by using low competition keywords, creating mind blowing content, and looking for high authority incoming links.
  3. Algorithm updates: Drop in search engine rankings overnight? It is most probably because of the algorithm updates that search engines are so busy doing to keep things fresh and make sure that the best content is kept at the top. However, even if your site is all fresh and filled with great content, it’s rankings can still drop with the updates, courtesy of the sites you get a lot of your links from which have been affected by the update.
  4. Malware: Why aren’t your visitors visiting your site anymore? Malware could be the one to blame here. If Google finds malware on any of your pages, it is quick to notify any potential visitors in the SERPs who click on your page before they actually get to your site. Webmasters linking to your site could also be deterred to link. That definitely explains why your traffic has plunged and so has your rankings.
  5. Server issues: Maybe the rankings have dropped because Google cannot access your server because of issues with your host or on your end and you have left the issue unsolved for some days.
  6. Robot.txt file problems: Are you sure you have not made any mistakes in your robot.txt? It may be prohibiting search engine crawlers from gaining access to certain pages of your site. So make sure you’re only blocking the URLs you don’t want crawled with that file.
  7. Penalization: Whether you’ve used Black Hat SEO or don’t even know what you have done, you could have been penalized by Google.
  8. Broken Links (especially a prominent internal link on your site): This could be another reason for the drop. You can quick fix it with a free WordPress plugin called Broken Link Checker which notifies you of broken links as soon as it detects one on its regular checks.
  9. Duplicate content: It doesn’t matter if your content is original, if someone else has copied your content, Google decides which is duplicate and it could deem yours to be the copied one. You see, search engines hate duplicate content with a passion. Or you could have issues of similar content on different pages of the same site. Why don’t you bust the copycats with CopyScape? It’s free!
  10. The Google Dance: Your drop in rankings might just be the result of random shuffling and fluctuation of listings which usually doesn’t last long, a phenomenon we call “The Google Dance”. Now, we can’t explain why Google does the dance but we can definitely tell you that if it’s the reason, you could be getting your rankings back pretty soon.
