Microsoft has completed working on their first major update to their Windows 7 operating system and will begin sending the Windows 7 SP1 update out on February 22nd via their Windows Update service.
For our clients on one of the Idealogical maintenance plans, our team will check all details, test and deploy as part of our service. There is nothing for you to do. We will take care of this.
What is earth shattering about Service Pack 1 for Windows 7?
There is nothing earth shattering new with Windows 7 SP1 that would have an impact on your Toronto business. Windows 7 SP1 is primarily a bug-fix update that brings together all the patches and updates released so far.
There are a number of behind the scenes technical updates, such as RemoteFX and Dynamic Memory which are two new virtualization features enabled in Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1. The Windows 7 SP1 update enhances the virtualization experience of Remote Desktop and performance enhancements while working in a virtual environment.
Our team of Toronto IT Support professionals has had the luxury of testing Windows 7 SP1 through our membership in the Microsoft Partner Program. From what we can see, there are no user interface changes, no real performance boosts and no other cool stuff to talk about.
From our Markham office, Idealogical works with many Toronto and GTA businesses. We offer server virtualization services and support to many of our clients, so the virtualization features are interesting and compelling. These updates can help reduce the system load and increase performance for our clients running virtual servers.
This is pretty good news for businesses leveraging Microsoft Hyper-V and other virtualization services.
